Annual birding festival celebrates the incredible variety of migratory birds that visit Blaine, Semiahmoo, Birch Bay, and Drayton Harbor located on the Pacific Flyway in the Northwest corner of Washington State with field trips, nature cruises, wildlife demonstrations, arts & crafts, kid's activities, expert wildlife speakers and more!
2014 Festival date: The 2014 Festival will take place on
March 14 - 16 with the all day birding expo on Saturday, March 15, 10 am - 5 pm.
Location: 975 H Street, Blaine Middle School and Blaine School
Performing Arts Center as well as field trips in the local area.
Wings Over Water Northwest Birding Festival celebrates the incredible variety of migratory birds that flock to this pristine coastal area. Birding is one of America's fastest growing outdoor activities and Blaine, Semiahmoo*, and Birch Bay located on the Pacific Flyway as well as the beginning of the Cascade Loop of the Washington State Birding Trail, are one of the country's premier bird viewing areas where you can observe a large variety of birds close at hand.
The multi day festival begins in the evening of Friday, March 14 with an opening reception at Semiahmoo Resort, 6- 8 pm featuring a gallery of bird photography in addition to artwork by this year’s featured artist, Sylvia Hayden. Noah Strycker will also be presenting, “Among Penguins~Life Down South.
On Saturday, March 15, there will be a daylong birding expo with lots of free activities for the whole family! . There will be indoor and outdoor activities to mix and match according to interests and the weather including live raptor presentations by Sardis Raptor Center, wildlife exhibits and displays, expert wildlife speakers, on site art and craft vendors, kids' activities, including build your own bird house; bird viewing stations and more.
Experience guided birding trips to explore the abundance of bird species that are in this pristine area or take a wildlife cruise around Drayton Harbor on the historic Plover Ferry. Or take a birding photography class to learn from the experts on how to capture the best wildlife images. (Some fee’s may apply –see schedule for fee’s and more information).
Saturday evening at 5:00 pm, there will be a free presentation at the Performing Arts Center (975 H Street) by award-winning photographer and author Paul Bannick. Sunday morning, enjoy a Birding Breakfast Buffet and presentation by Noah Strycker at C’J’s Restaurant in Birch Bay. 9 - 11 am.
